The Beginning...

In 2006, Gautam Ramadurai, after having an epiphany in the middle of a marvelously unnecessary lecture, decided to move his backside, and do something unboring for a change. Originally intended as a platform for the misguided and often misunderstood engineer to get some jazz, Shabd has evolved over time and now caters to a vast majority of engineers, who believe that fun is an essential ingredient in a healthy human diet. The Editorial Board takes pride in hosting Shabd with scores of volunteers, to bring to the table everything from debate to creative writing to JAM, in both English and Kannada. A two-day celebration of art and literature, Shabd has something for everyone. Hop on, then!

What is Shabd?

Shabd marks the release of our most prized creation, ‘Jayzine’, the college annual magazine. Generally held in February, a lot of work goes into bringing the event to fruition. Armed with a different central theme every year, we design all of the posters ourselves. With the aid of our amazing volunteers, we make magnificent installations and display them everywhere around our college. We try to make them look classy at times and tacky during others. Everything we do is easily relatable to the college crowd we attract, so pop-culture references are a must! Whether it is syncing some ideas off the net or just doodling away through barrels of caffeine intake, we love what we do.

The Preparations

If one happens to pass by Mech Audi on a breezy June evening, you will probably see our ever-diligent volunteers doing some paper mâché or painting on a board or just swaying to Queen or Kings of Leon crooning in the background. Be warned, the only thing you need to remember when you volunteer with us is that your clothes might get a little dirty. Just make sure to wear something comfortable and come along to have some fun with us!

Installations

||SHABD|| might be a two-day fest, but our preparations aren't! Every year, with the help of our wonderful volunteers, we make elaborate art installations- cute, geeky and everything in between. Here's a sneak peak!
